Royeroid

A tribute to Jean Royère / 2O1O

Why should a designer be interested in the interior designer Jean Royère? His anachronistic frivolity and his anticipation of free forms in residential space undeniably make him a worthwhile reference. The Ours polaire sofa and armchair no longer appear as traditional pieces of furniture. The various elements such as the backrest and the arms, the seat and the feet are blended together to produce a more uniform shape. Royèroid pays tribute to Ours polaire whilst continuing the quest for abstraction and tending towards useful sculpture. The furniture appears monolithic thanks to a complex pattern that wraps around them like a 3D mesh. Details are blurred as if there was a skin stretched around formerly distinct elements. Areas of paler diamond shapes correspond to the front of the arms and the seat cushion of the original. They seem to be the eerie echoes of sections that were still perceptible as distinct elements in Royère's furniture.
